6/22/10 Here's some praise for our new video for "Le Retour" (which you can catch right above this): Tom Player, Player Entertainment Law... "Holy shit! That is one of the most professionally done videos I've ever seen from an indie artist - or any artist for that matter! Well done! Very dark and disturbing subject ...matter, but the tension and intrigue of the story line is well-portrayed and kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat throughout the entire video." Sean Perry, Editor Axis Magazine "…This is awesome... of course disturbing as hell, like a Florida 'Wickerman'!...I think I can understand why HOB might have been a little nervous!" Brian Dickerman, D.J., WJRR 101.1 Orlando, FL “This is without a doubt the best local band, not even local band… This is better than big band videos…I can not believe the quality of product. It’s going to blow your mind. It’s insane!” Kam Lee, ex- mantas, massacre, denial fiend; Vocalist for BoneGnawer, Cryptidz, Grotesquery. Inventor of death metal growl. “The return of Mother Earth" is more then just a simple generic music video we've all seen a billion times over and over again - with some band air playing their instruments - 'show boating' in front of a camera, and looking completely out of place in a visual media. Rather this vid is a collaboration from the band and director that works more like a mini-movie. It takes you on a phantasmagoric ride from the hangman's noose to blood drenched occult madness - infant sacrificed pagan deity worship - demon incantation - absinthe fueled séances gone wrong - and resurrected drowned witches from the depths of the sea.” Empyrean speak on their new video for "Le Retour De Mere-Terre" - We chose the song “Le Retour” for our video because it so wholly encompasses the themes on “Resurrection Engine.” In short, the video itself is an exploration of 4 convergent stories corresponding to individual songs on the album. It explores three primary themes, the first of which is duality of self, the second being the transformation of the human from a physical to a spiritual being, and the third, a nod to the concept of old religions and elemental practices, and a reminder that the earth will eventually rectify whatever unbalances it acquires itself. It is notable that we chose each vignette to correspond to a different element, and a different blending of spiritual entities. I’m sure people will draw their own conclusions as to whom these characters are supposed to be, but ultimately our goal was to draw attention to resonant stories that transcend cultures, as each of these characters borrows heavily from more than one version of the same essential character as reflected across many belief systems. We chose to work with Director Steven Shea not only because of a long time friendship, but for the merits of his other projects, which highly accent both his strong vision and his ability to turn a budget production into an epic. The entire video including travel cost approximately $2500, largely due to an intense amount of effort on his part, an incredible voluntary cast, and the excellent make up effects of the artists Luandra Whitehurst and C.S. Studios. And of course, we have a lot of weird shit laying around.
